The Cellist

Heidi studied at The Royal Academy of Music in London for a total of eight years. She began as a scholarship holder at Junior Academy, where she studied under the tutelege of Robert Max. She went on to complete both her undergraduate and postgraduate degrees there and was awarded the Suggia Scholarship and a Leverhulme Orchestral Fellowship as a post-grad. Whilst at the RAM, Heidi was very fortunate to study under David Strange and Felix Schmidt and had additional lessons with Robert Cohen and Colin Carr.

Since completing her studies, Heidi has been performing across the UK and internationally in venues including The Purcell Room, Kings Place, The Royal Festival Hall, Royal Albert Hall, The Sage Gateshead, The Roundhouse and Hamburg Staatsoper. She plays with orchestras and chamber ensembles as well as jazz and pop artists, and has recorded solo cello tracks for the BBC, Channel 4 and Netflix and her playing is featured on Charlie Brooker’s award winning series ‘Black Mirror’. She has also worked extensively as a theatre performer, both in the pit and on stage. Shows have included ‘Titanic’ and ‘Working’ at The Southwark Playhouse and Charing Cross Theatre and all over the world with comedy string quartet, Graffiti Classics. Heidi has also performed with the ‘Thursford Christmas Spectacular’ for nearly a decade.

Orchestrally, Heidi has worked with Dorset Opera, Nevill Holt Opera, The Heritage Orchestra and as guest principal with the Royal Northern Sinfonia. As a solo cellist, performances have included recitals at Conway Hall, Brunel Museum, Cheltenham Music Festival, Chichester Arts Festival, Cromer Music Evenings, Keele University and St. John’s College, Cambridge.

She is a founding member of ‘Tafahum’ (arabic for ‘understanding’), an ensemble that brings Eastern and Western musical traditions together. With them she has recorded their debut album ‘Osmosis’, which embraces music without cultural boundaries. Heidi has performed and recorded with Saxophonist and composer Trish Clowes on her albums, ‘Tangent’ and ‘And In the Night-time, She is There’. She has performed with Michael Kiwanuka, Kano, UNKLE and A Great Big World.

Heidi’s long standing chamber ensemble, The Galos Piano Trio and her duo with violinist Bogdan Vacarescu are projects she holds very close to her heart. You can find out more about these projects elsewhere on her website.
